Newtron packer old

Post by asle »

Hi there

A quick note to the ones interrested in PTK packers. I've just finnished converting the musics from the musicdisk Little Joe & Newtron Musicdisk. It's a variant of the Newtron Packer we already know. I've called this "Newtron Packer Old" but I'd say this version is the real "packed" one when comparing to the format in Newtrons Music Box.
Anyway, you can download the packed and depacked files here (1.2 Mb !).

format is like this :

Code: Select all

Newtron Old format

Hi Muerto,

Well, that's the lot. You got all the seven musics in the archive.

Nice to see that you're still digging into this stuff, asle. Have you ever tried to decompose the so called Pierre Adane or Peter Verswyvelen packers?

Hi Muerto,

Well, NTP2 are ealier that NTP1, at least for the prods they are used in. Though, the formats themselves suggest clearly the other way around. I'd say NTP2 is in fact Newtron Packer and NTP1 should be Newtron Player. No other file is found as of yet, and I've handled all ORIX prods of Amigascne.org. If you know of some other ...

Hi!

I just found this forum and found this thread about our music disk!
Woah! In 2007 :-) Some information from my perpective (as far as I remember), since I know Newtron (Torsten) and Contra (Torben). The first music disk was created by Contra. He wanted a "special" loader, but not an own disk format. So he came up with the idea of creating one huge file inside an amiga dos disk.

Magic Fly (Arno and brother of Newtron) wanted that the songs are "unripable" with the automatic ripping function of Amiga Action Replay. So Contra deleted/scrambled some part of the header of those mods.

Later, when we were "Aspect", he added some packing to the module loader. So Newtrons Music Box was created before Little Joe/Newtrons Musicdisk.

regards,
Alexander
aka Crossbow/Suxx/Success of Terrana/Orix/Aspect

P.S.:
I found some Orix/Aspect Demos in the encyclopedia, but not all are downloadable. Any idea where I can get them? I have no possibility to scan my Amiga disks at the moment.

Wow, looks cool!

For the disks, I have some hundred disks here, mostly 5 1/4". I got this disks in 1996/1997 from Laurin as a legacy and newer touched them so I can not really say what I have.
Yesterday I tried some of my own disks and half of them failed (disk error). Even my "OKS Import Division Demo Disk" :-(.

For disk transfer I have an 4000er with network card, so that should not be a problem.

regards,
Alex

Have a look at the disk surface. Sometimes dirt/dust can gather over the years in additional to magnetic surface deterioration. Sometimes I find I am able to read a disk by taking it out from the plastic and giving it a gentle wash in soap and warm water :)

Also, some drives are better than others, so it might be worth trying a few external drives.

Wash in soap and warm water?!?!
I will try this if nothings works :-)

Some OT question:
Since I can not guarantee that those disks are free of all kind of virus, is there a good anti-virus tool? I remember VT and searched AmiNet but there are so much tools, even from 2004!
Any suggestions?

regards,
Alex

http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/ve/ve.htm
http://www.aminet.net/package/util/virus/VirusZ

and latest xvs library for use with both programs:

http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/xvs/xvs.htm

If you want, you could post me any disks (including damaged ones) with important information and I can try my best to recover the information for you.
