USST - UAE Save State Tool

Post by MysticMoon »

Hi !

For whoever likes these sorta things, I made a small tool to rip/decompress the memory dumps stored in the WinUAE save state files (*.uss files).

Much like how WinFellow could dump the ram, only WinUAE compresses them, so this tool decompresses them back to raw format.

You can then load these into your fav ripper. eg exoticripper. for analysis.

Its a small win32 console app.

Somebody may find it useful.. :)

At this site for now :

I'm gonna have to have a serious look for another host, brinkster is very poor now.

If you can't get the file, just try again and again until you can..

I'll provide a new link when I can.

I'll put it on www.kyz.uklinux.net if you include the source code.

Not much further than you last saw. I'm trying to work out why DeliTracker won't load my converted Eye of the Beholder instruments.

Ey up!

Just wondering if you knew that WinUAE also saves USS files in an uncompressed format too?

Cheers!

Yeah, I know when WinUAE started out with savestates they were uncompressed, but later releases use zlib compression to get the filesize down.

I've tested USST with savestates made with WinUAE 0.8.26 and it does its job. One day I'll add the code for extraction of non-zlib files, shouldn't pose too much of a problem.. its just finding the time I guess..

The source code could possibly be cleaned up and made a little neater also, it was done in a rush of sorts :)

I just posted it cuz I thought somebody may find it useful other than myself.
