Good news.

Post by kyz »

I sat down for a minute and worked out both Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2's custom instrument format, and I worked out Aegis Sonix's custom instrument format. I will now convert EOTB 1 and 2 to use Sonix Aegis instruments.

I've had EOTB 1 and 2 ripped for years. They use regular IFF SMUS music, with an intermediate "IFF INST" file that indicates the actual sound sample file, and also has a "VLUM" chunk which gives a kind of ADSR envelope for the instrument volume.

Recently, I found Sonix 2.0 on a warez site, and from some experiments I now know the format of Sonix instrument files (they are undocumented). So now I will convert the IFF INST files to Sonix instrument files, and hopefully the SMUS player in DeliTracker/Player will be able to play the EOTB 1 and 2 musics. Huzzah!

Ey up!

All the following appear to be using the SMUS format, but they are either on non-dos disks or the format has been tweaked so that they are not recognised by the players.

If you can spare the time to have it look, it would be appreciated...

4D Sports Boxing - (Mindscape)
4D Sports Driving - (Mindscape)
Buck Rogers - (SSI)
Capone - (Actionware)
Conan the Cimmerian - (Virgin Games)
Moonwalker - (U.S. Gold) [Allister Brimble]
P.O.W. - (Actionware)
Rocket Ranger - (Cinemaware)
Running Man - (Grandslam)
Star Wars - (DoMark)
Test Drive - (Accolade)
TV Sports Basketball - (Cinemaware)
Vigilante - (U.S. Gold / Emerald Software)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - (Buena Vista Software)
Zany Gold - (Electronic Arts)

I have Rocket Ranger (and Wings) in my collection, which I'll look at soon. For the others, we'll have to arrange something. My mailbox can take about 20Mb on a good day, so perhaps you could pick a favourite and send it to me. What happened to Marbelous, btw?

Oh, and as a status update on EOTB, I'm currently looking deep into the Sonix SampledSound replay code to work out what the hell the "right values" for the first 6 bytes of the .ss file are. I'm still scratching my head as to how people made their own SampledSound sounds, because Sonix doesn't have any option for making these magic .ss files -- I originally thought they were just raw data, but they ain't.

You can read the work-in-progress here: http://kyz.mine.nu/misc/sonix_format.txt

(Some hate mail is on it's way you!)

I don't know if it's of any help, and you may already know this, but older versions of Audiomaster supported the Sonix sampled sound format, including generating the multi-octave instruments.

Also, Mr Lionet, and his AMOS magic, wrote a program to convert Sonix files (as well as Protracker mods) into AMOS music banks, which came supplied with AMOS.

I'll have to look for that. Good stuff.

I know the AMOS music back format well, and you'll note that said converter only works with IFF instruments, requiring you to manually pick an "appropriate" IFF sound sample for everything else.

Hi,

I was jsut browsing this forum to find anything about playing the music from Roger Rabbit. Is there any progress on this?

I have two versions of the game. The first release was a bit buggy, thus I got sent 'fixed' new one which also loaded faster!

Can't remember exactly but the format of the music files was different on both versions. I know one had .music files the other I don't know anymore.

If anyone is interested in helping me out to get them played, I can lookup the files and put them somewhere.

Thanks,
Ramon.

There is a new player for the Sonix format which should be of use to you. Both the player and several game soundtracks are currently available at the Wanted Team website.
Cheers!
