Making
ADFs
The
most FAQ is 'How do i turn my old
disks into ADF format ?'. Well
there are two easy ways. One is the use
of a serial cable, the other by altering
your PC floppy drive a little. At the
moment, im only telling you how to use
the floppy method, as the other one is
harder to explain, and a lot slower.

The

bit of thin wire ( the thinner, one
stranded stuff is best )
Screw
driver to open your PC (if the lids
screwed on, mine often isnt)

Right,
the wire. I used this really thin wire,
that i got ages ago. Its one strand, and
1mm thick. It works great. Open up your
pc, and dissconnect the Disk drive, so
its easily assesible. Now Pull out the
IDE cable from the back of the disk
drive. Strip Back about 3/4 cm of the
wire insulator. This wire needs to go
into the bit that makes the connection to
pin 30 on your IDE cable. The easiest way
to do it, is to place the wire into the
IDE cable that connects to pin 30. When
you push the IDE cable back onto the
floppy connection pins, the connection is
made. You could try to solder the wire
dirrectly to pin 30 on your floppy, but
this way is easy and meens it can be
taken off at any time.
Pin
30 - Right on the IDE cable there are two
rows of 17 pins.
Pin
one has a red strip on it from the IDE
cable. The rows also go....

So fold back your
wire and stick it into the IDE cable at
pin 30.
The other end of
this wire needs to be soldered to pin 10
on your 25 pin connector. Then place this
in your Parellel port. Turn on your
computer and off you go. Your computer (
if using windows) should detect new
hardware. BUT ----
The program
can ONLY be run from pure DOS, and not a
windows DOS window. So you need to
restart your computer in MS DOS mode.
The program
may have problems with extra periperals
like Zip drives etc - You may need to
remove these
You may
need to alter your Bios setup - You may
need to Alter your Com Ports and LPT
ports, and their IRQs.
Once there, and in
the dirrectory of the downloaded
software, ie C:/reader, u type
C:\ Readadf
gamename.adf
The disk will be
converted to ADF format within 2 mins.
Thats It - Simple

will not allow you to use games dirrectly
through UAE or Fellow. It just converts
your disks for you into a form that UAE
and Fellow can use.
