X-Copy

X-Copy was probably the best know Amiga Back Up utility. It was included on most copy disk complinations and was very effective. There were over 20 updates to this software, starting at X-Copy, and finishing on the rare X-Copy - The Next Generation ( TNG ). This was first advertised in 1994, yet i have never seen the completed product ( i only have a beta copy ) . Other releases included X-Copy CDTV which was a 'cut down' version of the software supplied with X-Copy 93, and the rare X-Copy Santa. This was a 'modified version of X-Copy 3' with a Christmas look. X-Copy III was also quiet a rare release. This featured a new copying mode called ' TwinCopy' which enabled the cyclone cartrdige to be used within X-Copy, meaning that it was usuable for Heavy Copy modes. ( This was only previously available within Cyclone). However this mode was very buggy and was only available in the release. What made X-Copy so useful was that although its backup facilities were second to none, it also had many useful features built in, such as disk format, disk sector checks and boot virus checks The X-Copy package was created by Cachet and released through Siren Software, costing around £39.99 in the UK. Within this package came X-Copy , but also come other useful applications like X-Lent, X-It and Cyclone. There was also a 6 paged manual and a very useful piece of hardware. This was a small 'dongle' which could be plugged between your computer and external drive. It was required by Cyclone, and enabled any disk to be backed up. This was very useful for backing up protected software. One downside to this package was the manual. The manual was very brief, and although it explanied the basics of using X-Copy, it did not go into much detail about making the maximum use of all its features, and did not explain how to use the other applications which came iwth the package.
